Wisdom from the Austrian Oak

Believe it or not, I am working today even though it is my birthday.

I actually work every day in some capacity.

Why?

To quote none other than Mr Schwarzenegger himself (from his “Six Rules for Success” speech which you can probably find on YouTube):

“When you’re out there partying, horsing around, someone out there at the same time is working hard. Someone is getting smarter and someone is winning.”

There are two ways to read this quote.

The first is favoured by insufferable HustleBros who glorify The Grind™.

They believe it means that if you’re not going 110% at all times, you are not working hard enough and are doomed to a life of ignominy serving pumpkin spiced lattes to HR ladies with pronouns in their bios.

On the other hand, Thinking People know it means doing the best you can with what you’ve got which necessarily means forgoing some pleasures in the pursuit of something greater.

And that is why I am spending some time moving my business in the right direction instead of slobbing about in my pyjamas eating cake all day.

This idea of delaying some gratification to chip away at critical tasks applies equally to training.

Particularly when you are up against it on the work and/or family fronts because at times like these you can’t devote swathes of effort without burning out. But, equally, you cannot do nothing at all ‘cuz you’ll get fat and out of shape.

Enter, my book:

“Shift”

This short book is based on my experience of training while working all hours of the night and day on the ambulances.

It mansplains how to make modest progress even when you are so busy you’re not sure what day it is.

Here is what to do now:

1) Visit the below-linked page and read it carefully to make sure your decision is an informed one

2) Check the price has dropped

3) Proceed with your purchase

4) Wait patiently for Royal Mail to deliver your book
