Why I’m not on social media

Actually, I sort of am in that I use it to run adverts inviting people to subscribe to this email newsletter.

Plus the “Outdoor Fitness: Goole” Facebook group that Jess mostly runs, but I occasionally make an appearance to post something that’s some combination of informative, entertaining, and offensive.

But other than those two things, I’m not on social media at all.

I don’t even use it to “consume” fitness content because I’ve found getting it from books and long form articles on independent websites that have long since been buried under a mountain of unreadable SEO’d and now AI-generated slop is a far better way to learn what I need to know to stay strong and in shape.

Certainly beats trying to sort the single nugget of sanity from the dumb and dangerous claptrap Johnny Juicehead puts forth to impress sad middle-aged men who like to think they’re hArDcOrE or letting people with literal eating disorders inform my approach to diet.

That was today’s tip, by the way.

And on a tangentially related note…

If you want a reliable source of straightforward information you can use to get sustainable (albeit slow) results, plus comprehensive personal support to put it into action, I recommend getting a subscription to my offline (i.e Real Paper) newsletter.
