There’s an epidemic.
An epidemic of men who like the idea of getting into shape, but cannot summon the motivation to take meaningful steps towards achieving their goals.
How do I know?
Consider the following:
Over the last few months, I’ve spent an eye-watering sum of money advertising my book, Lift and email newsletter (don’t worry, I can afford it). In all probability, you’re reading this because you saw one of those self-same ads.
Part of this has involved asking people if they want to learn more about The OX Protocol (my private coaching programme), either by leaving their details in a contact form or booking a call directly into my diary.
Here’s what I’ve found:
A small percentage of people who book a call don’t turn up. This is par for the course. I’m asking people to give me an hour of their time, and things come up that are a higher priority than talking to me about coaching. Moreover, there are things I could do to ensure more people turn up (namely, charging for the calls), but have chosen not to for various reasons.
However, what I do find baffling is the overwhelming majority of people who submit their details via contact form outright ignore my follow-up email, despite me telling them I’ll reply within 24 hours and to check their spam, junk, or promotions folders if they can’t see my email in their inbox.
The only conclusion I can draw is the people in this second group are so lazy, simply tapping a few words and hitting “send” is too much effort.
Given this, I can say with confidence they’re going to be in exactly the same position fitness-wise in a years’ time.
Actually, they’ll be worse off because time is a harsh mistress who gives no quarter.
The lesson?
It’s all to do with “shiny object syndrome”.
You see some influencer posting about a programme or method, you get all excited, so you give it a go.
And when you don’t get results fast enough, you get frustrated, so when the next “shiny object” comes along, you stop what you’re doing to give this New Thing a go instead.
Lo and behold, the results don’t come quickly (they NEVER do), so you start looking around…
And so on.
Most people who leave their details in my contact forms want a quick fix. So, when I respond with a question they realise I’m gonna make them do some work rather than hand them everything on a plate, ignore me, and go fishing for the next shiny object.
You don’t want to be like them.
Pick an approach you believe in and do the work.
Otherwise, this time next year you’ll be worse off than you are now.
If you’re ready to commit, I’ve got something for you.
