Behold a point I’ve made before (and will doubtless make again and again and again):
Broadly speaking, you have two options for getting strong and in shape.
The first is to decide to go “all in” on your training and probably your diet as well, vastly increasing one or a combination of the volume, frequency, and intensity of your workouts with a view to achieving a “transformation” within a mere handful of weeks (6, 8, or 12, typically).
It’s what most do and, to be fair, it “works” in the sense that such herculean effort will most likely produce fair results.
Maybe not results on par with what you’d like to achieve or the “before and after” photos most in my line of work use to advertise their offerings (almost always the top 1% of their clients, so not at all representative of what most achieve).
But you’ll get something, provided what you do isn’t completely nonsensical and you apply a modicum of effort.
However.
You won’t keep those results for more than a few weeks to a handful of months at most.
Why?
The methods used to attain them were by definition unsustainable, so it’s not a question of “if” but “when” you fall back into previous habits, everything you’ve worked so very hard to gain fades away.
Convinced you won’t return to your own ways?
Fine. You’ll still wind up burned out or with an injury (potentially of the permanently training-terminating variety) that’ll stop you dead in your tracks. And when that happens, the fat creeps back on, the strength levels decline, old aches and pains return, and so on, and so on.
The alternative is to intentionally tackle your fitness goals slowly (we are talking measuring progress over years and decades rather than weeks or months).
It’s the road less travelled (and understandably so), but it’s the only one that will get you to your destination.
Anyway.
If you are one of the rare few who this idea appeals to, and you’d like some food for the journey, I recommend subscribing to The Phil Tyreman Letter; because everything I teach inside is overtly designed to deliver results slowly, so you can keep what you earn with the bare minimum of fuss or hassle.
