A lot of guys get caught up in believing more = better, especially when they’re trying to get into shape. And whilst their intentions are laudable, this approach to training causes a lot of problems.
For starters, if you want to do “more” you have to fit it in. A tall order when you’ve got a family, a job, and interests beyond lifting weights and doing cardio.
Hence, when you try to do “more” things quickly become unmanageable. You miss sessions, training takes more than it gives, and, eventually, everything goes to hell in a handbasket.
Meanwhile, those results you worked so hard to achieve are slipping away like sand through your fingers.
The worst part?
What I’ve just described is a cycle. This means when you eventually get back on track, it will repeat.
You decide to get into shape, you train too hard, you fall off the wagon, you lose your results. Over and over and over again.
Sucks, doesn’t it?
Of course, there is a solution. However, most people don’t want to hear it because it’s the opposite of what they believe they need to do.
That solution is to train less.
- Lift weights two or three days per week. And,
- Do “hard” cardio three days per week (running, sprints, bodyweight circuits, etc.). And,
- Walk for at least 45 minutes every day without fail. And…
… That’s it.
That’s all you have to do training-wise to get and stay in fantastic shape.
Screw back-breaking workouts. Yeah, they look “hardcore”, but it’s impossible to train that way long-term.
Try it, and you will burn out. You will hurt yourself.
So what’s it gonna be?
Are you going to keep trying to do “more” and stay trapped in the vicious cycle or are you going to do the smart thing, train less, and get a body that would make a 20-year-old green with envy?
You’re free to choose. You’re not free from the consequences of your choice.
Anyway, I’ve a thing to sell you — if it’s right.
It’s my (to my knowledge) one-of-a-kind monthly printed newsletter, The Phil Tyreman Letter.
