Short Q&A for the curious

Here are answers to some (paraphrased) questions I get asked by people who are interested in becoming one of my esteemed Phil Tyreman Letter subscribers:

===

Q: Will you write me a training programme?

A: Yes, in the first instance but I’ll subsequently push you to write your own using the material you have access to (tweaking it if need be).

Q: What support will you give me?

A: Whatever is required to get the job done. If you want to plug your training into a spreadsheet to share with me, we can do that. If you’ve got questions, comments, or concerns, I will answer them pretty much immediately (normally within 12 hours but never more than 24 hours in any case).

The only thing I won’t do is regular telephone or video calls, although I will invite you for one when I think it’ll help.

Q: Most coaches only charge X. Who do you think you are demanding £120/month?

A: If you believe there are many other coaches who can furnish you with the service you need to get the results you want for a price you don’t find offensive, why are you not already working with them?

Q: Will you help me with my diet?

A: Only insofar as giving you a whack about the head with the “common sense stick”.

If you need more than that (e.g. you have psychological problems affecting your relationship with food), you should seek assistance from a HCPC registered dietitian.

Q: Is it worth subscribing if I don’t want to work with you long term?

A: No.

Q: When you say “get strong and in shape slowly”, how slowly are we talking?

A: You’re looking at several months to see noticeable differences in strength, performance, and appearance and likely years before you get truly meaningful results you can actually maintain for more than five minutes.

The physiological, psychological, and sociological reasons for this are legion so I can’t go into them now even if I wanted to. All you need to know for now is that there is no way to do it “faster” without risking your health, rebounding into the same or worse position than before pretty much immediately, or both.

That concludes this short Q&A.
