From a conversation with another man who is interested in working with me:
===
“Doing my own thing for now Phil.
If I can commit to that for a while then I can move to next level”
===
He is a very smart man.
Here is why:
Many people have unrealistic expectations about what they can expect from working with a personal trainer.
Namely, they hire one for help with getting started because they lack motivation, aren’t sure what exercises to do, or feel too intimidated to set foot in the gym alone.
This is a waste of money, in my opinion.
Why?
Remember when Eddie Hall pulled a 44,000-pound aeroplane as part of The World’s Strongest Man competition in 2016?
He managed to shift it 24.45 metres (around the length of a basketball court) – a monstrous achievement indeed.
However, Eddie was never going to pull the plane far or fast enough for it to take off. For that, the plane would need to have its engines on and a pilot in situ.
A silly analogy, perhaps – but it is an accurate one.
Because, my decade and a half of experience tells me that if people who hire a PT to “get started” get any results, they lose them the moment they stop working with the PT because they lack the discipline and drive to keep moving forwards alone.
Worse – most don’t get any results at all. (If you disbelieve me, observe how those who work with PTs in your local gym continue to look the same despite being “coached” for months and, in some cases, years).
A cautionary message that’s irrelevant if you’re already training regularly under your own steam, but highly relevant (with the potential to save you a lot of money) if you’re not.
And if you are ready to move to that “next level” the chap I was talking to mentioned, The Phil Tyreman Letter will get you there – subject to the obvious caveat of you paying attention and doing the work.
Please don’t subscribe if you’re not already training at least somewhat regularly because you won’t benefit.
