Do you ever get the feeling we no longer live in a serious country?
For example, on Monday I took my mum to see the consultant at York Hospital.
According to Wikipedia, it cost £12.5 million to build and equip between 1971 and 1976 (just over £80 million in today’s money) – not that you’d know it from the crumbling brutalist facade.
Things weren’t any better on the inside.
Staff and patients alike shambling about, many wearing snot-stained face masks for fear of catching The Afflication That Shall Not Be Named. (Although, if I was grossly overweight and sporting lungs made of tissue paper, I’d probably be terrified of catching the coof, too).
Oh, and to top it off, we got stung for a fiver to park the car.
Why is any of this relevant?
Well, I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to waste my time and money visiting these decrepit institutions – if I can help it.
And I *can* help it.
As can you, considering 40% of all disease burden in the UK is due to preventable risk factors like alcohol consumption and obesity.
So, if cardio is not already a fixed, firm part of your routine – now is the time to start, if you are interested in mitigating your risk of joining the sickly, miserable masses for whom the local hospital is a second home.
Appropriately, March’s issue of The Phil Tyreman Letter discusses cardio in stringent detail.
It contains the strategies and tactics you need to successfully integrate cardio into your training, so you can reap the health and physique benefits for years – perhaps decades – to come.
Men who are already doing regular cardio will also benefit, as my methodology is predicated upon balancing it with lifting to create a virtuous cycle that leads to more consistent and sustainable results in both disciplines.
When you subscribe, you get virtually unfettered private access to me for answers to any questions I’m qualified to answer, support with designing your training programmes, video critiques of your form, and anything else I can assist you with.
A subscription is £100/month which works out at £3.29/day. (Cancel any time for any reason or no reason).
The deadline is bearing down upon us like a runaway freight train, so if you’re interested, now is the time:

P.S. Here’s a bulleted summary of what you’ll get in March’s issue:
* The three reasons why most men who lift weights do little or no cardio. If you find yourself starting a cardio routine and then stopping again I can almost guarantee at least one of these reasons applies to you, and unless you understand *why* you’re struggling you’ll forever remain trapped in this most pernicious of cycles.
* Why cardio is the ultimate “ego check” for men who are respectably (or even just fairly) strong.
* The two forms of cardio and how their symbiotic relationship means that if you do one without the other, you’ll never get results worthy of all your hard work.
* How to get into shape very quickly – in under two hours per week. (I seldom make bold claims like this, but on this occasion, I’ve no qualms in doing so because it’s simply the truth – subject to the obvious caveat of you Doing The Work™).
* A step-by-step guide to building your own cardio routine from scratch. My process requires effort and a healthy dose of critical thinking, but learning how to create your own programme is infinitely better than being spoon-fed cookie-cutter nonsense.
* How often you should do a certain type of cardio depending on your specific training goals.
* What I believe to be the best cardio duration for fat loss. (Some vehemently disagree with me on this while others think I’m a genius. All I know is what I suggest works very well, in my experience).
* A big (but by no means exhaustive) list of different types of cardio activities to get your cogs whirring.
* Two (almost) “plug and play” cardio programmes to propel you towards a fitter, healthier, and better body. I know I implied the best programme is the one you write yourself, but it would be remiss of me to not at least give you a framework for inspiration – so I’m giving you two.
* Perhaps the most brutal parting words I have ever committed to paper and ink. They’re certainly not for the faint of heart, but every word is true and written with your long-term success in mind.
Subscribers will also enjoy a bonus this month in the form of my prestigious “Running Starter Kit”.
This concise and straightforward guide will take you from not running at all to confidently running respectable distances multiple times per week.
