I’m many things, but a quitter ain’t one of them

If the rumours are to be believed, come November, we’re in an act of financial pedication unlike anything since probably the “temporary” introduction of income tax to fund the Napoleonic wars.

Like, for example, the rumoured removal of VAT exemptions. Which, as the purveyor of informative and entertaining fitness books and newsletters would obviously have quite the negative impact on my bizniss.

How so?

For starters, having to charge an extra 20% on top of my already eye-poppingly expensive books (that I wouldn’t see a penny of) will doubtless give my bottom line a kicking.

Likewise Phil Tyreman Letter subscriptions.

They are not expensive at all, but such a policy change would screw with my margins no end due to the knock on inflationary effect rocketing up prices right the way through the supply chain.

Paper, printing, postage. All of it will be getting a hell of a lot more expensive, as will literally everything else (food, energy, housing, etc, etc) and that will suppress demand, probably kicking off a doom spiral that will see the YooKay adopt true third world status within a generation.

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t think about jacking it all in for a fleeting moment.

Only a fleeting moment, because I’m many things but a quitter ain’t one of them.

The challenges of our perilous economic situation are little different in principle to the challenges I’ve overcome on the training front over the last decade and a half or so.

Injury. Sixty hour work weeks. Mental issues. Having three kids under the age of five (with plans for more).

I didn’t stop training because of any of those, so why would I shytecan my business because Rachel from accounts would rather slide a greasy hand into everyone’s pocket than stop bankrolling the lazy, feckless, and unproductive?

I wouldn’t.

Especially as it’s never too difficult to find a way to circumnavigate the stormy waters, so long as you are:

1.  Willing to apply a modicum of critical thinking, and,

2. Happy to wait patiently for whatever result you desire to arrive.

Yes, I know this is a newsletter about fitness and absolutely nobody signed up to hear my political hot takes; but you cannot deny the parallels.

It’s also pertinent because if even some of what is rumoured comes to pass in November, I am probably going to have to raise the price of a Phil Tyreman Letter subscription.

There is a chance I won’t, so don’t get butthurt if you decide to subscribe to dodge a **potential** price rise and it doesn’t happen.

Not least because I won’t respond to your whinging (other than by cancelling your subscription and blacklisting you).

And there’s even less reason to moan because you’ll be “locked in” at the current rate and therefore won’t be affected when I do raise the price for any reason other than covering increases to the costs of printing and postage (and I will at some point, that’s a given).

Bleugh. That was a mouthful.

Anyway.

If you want in, go here, carefully appraise the information, and subscribe before the rapidly approaching deadline:
