How to expose yawning gaps in your fitness

Few things expose yawning gaps in your fitness quite like running.

Behold why:

* There is no way to “cheat” like you can with, say, cycling on a stationary bike very slowly. You are either running or you aren’t, and increasing numbers of folk are finding themselves unable to run any meaningful distance, if at all.

* If your general physical preparedness is lacking, the repeated impacts as your feet hit the concrete will eat you alive (I suppose you could mitigate this by running on a treadmill, but that is peak ghey unless the weather is atrocious or you live in an area rife with roadmen and murderhobos).

* Those possessed of large and fragile egos will quickly wind up burned out from attempting to run too far, too fast, and too often instead of doing the smart thing by working within their capabilities.

* Weakness in the muscles of the legs and/or back invariably results in rapid form breakdown, catapulting the risk of (potentially serious to the point of being training-terminating) injury into the stratosphere.

All the more reason to run and run regularly, in my humbly correct opinion.

Like it or not, running is a fundamental movement pattern – just as important to healthy functioning as being able to squat, press, or walk.

Yet, we are in the bizarre situation where a noisy minority of fitness eXpUrTz are saying that running is bad for you. (No doubt because it’s easier to shill products and services that don’t involve doing difficult and uncomfortable things.)

Whatever.

Every serious person with a functioning brain knows that running is not only a stellar way to build a  heart of iron and lungs of steel, but also discipline and character.

It’s one of those self-evident immutable truths of the universe (similar to how man-hating feminists always have short hair and smell like cat litter).

So.

If you are not running at all, or are running but know you can and should be doing a better job of it, my biased recommendation is that you immediately subscribe to my Real Paper newsletter, “The Phil Tyreman Letter”.

Why the rush?

March’s issue is devoted to giving the ordinary man or woman (i.e. one who wants fitness to enhance rather than rule their life) the tools they need to become a competent runner and reap the manifold benefits thereof.

But you must subscribe before the deadline (23:59 on the 28th) otherwise you will miss out.
