Judging by the number of people who unsubscribe and sometimes announce their departure by voicing their displeasure like their opinion means something whenever I mention it, my “No Returners” policy is Very Unpopular Indeed.
Which is kind of the point.
Alas, harsh experience has told me that most people are flakes at the best of times, but doubly so when fitness is involved.
They’re magpies in an endless (and fruitless) search for the next New and Exciting shiny object. Hence, they never stick at anything for more than a handful of weeks before jumping onto the next flashy programme or method they see on TikTok or whatever – all the while complaining they “train really hard but don’t get results”.
Obedient clients who do what needs to be done (which necessarily involves doing the same thing week in, week out for many months and, in certain cases, years without deviation) they do not make.
Moreover, they’re always the ones to ask the same questions over and over again expecting a different answer, demand refunds, file chargebacks, and whinge and moan to the point they’re altogether soul-sucking people to be around.
But instead of whining about “bad clients” as so many in my line of work are wont to do, I’ve decided to proactively bar the gates to these sorts by making it abundantly clear that signing up to my paid, Real Paper newsletter is a one time deal.
Put simply, if you cancel your subscription to “The Phil Tyreman Letter”, you cannot come back, ever, under any circumstances.
Obviously I don’t expect people to remain subscribed until one of us dies (although I’m sure there are some who will).
But I do expect them to stay until they feel they’ve nothing more to learn from me. At which point, it’d be plain wrong to demand they keep paying for something they don’t think they are benefitting from. And I can’t see why they’d want to come back if they believed there was nothing more I could do to help them get stronger and more in shape.
That’s my opinion, anyway.
Fortunately, it’s the only one that counts in this regard.
If you are not offended by it and are also not a flake, all the details about “The Phil Tyreman Letter” are here:
