Grinch incoming

Well, would you believe it’s Christmas day?

I debated sending you something warm and fluffy about how you should “take it easy” today, but, alas, my inner Grinch won out.

What I’m about to say will upset some fragile little salmons who like the idea of getting into shape but can’t be bothered to actually do anything meaningful about it (if that’s you, avail yourself of the unsubscribe button in the footer).

However, for those who are serious about building a powerful physique, but struggle to stay on track this time of year, this could well be the most important message you will ever read.

We begin.

Jess told me about an article she read that said the average person consumes a staggering 6000 calories on Christmas day. (No, I don’t know how they defined an “average” person. And, in any case, the specifics don’t matter because we all know people overindulge on Christmas day so take your pedantry elsewhere, thank you).

To eat that much in one day is disgusting.

But before you fly into a rage at me for calling out the ugly greed and gluttony that abound on Christmas day, please understand I’m just as guilty of this as anyone

At least, I used to be.

And just how ex-smokers often become the most avid anti-smokers, Your Humble Narrator sees it as his solemn duty to tell you…

there is a better way

One where you don’t eat so much it hurts.

One where the “Christmas Day excess” doesn’t continue into January and you watch as the pounds pile on.

One where you take a planned break from training, yet keep up a basic level of physical activity so you’re rested and ready to attack your goals in the New Year.

I imagine this sounds terribly boring and you probably think I’m one of those straight-edge weirdos with no life.

But here’s the thing: You can still enjoy Christmas using my approach. Truth be told, you’ll probably enjoy it a whole lot more because you’ll have a boatload more energy and won’t feel the least bit guilty when you see yourself in the mirror without a shirt on come January.

Is my way easy?

Nope. Not in the slightest.

In fact, it’s so difficult most won’t even try it.

Yet if you stick with it long enough, you’ll want to eat, train, and live this way. Moreover, you, like me, will look back at how you used to do things and think, “What on Earth was I thinking”

So.

I’m not suggesting you torpedo your plans for today in favour of starting a “health kick”. To do so would be futile or even counterproductive because this is a marathon and not a sprint.

I am suggesting you exercise a little restraint.

Or don’t.

It’s up to you.

And something else that’s up to you is whether or not you become a valued subscriber of The Phil Tyreman Letter.

January’s issue goes to print soon. It teaches you how to programme an entire year’s worth of training, so you can stop pinging aimlessly from programme to programme (or just winging it entirely), and finish 2024 in much better shape than you started it.

All the info is here (I recently updated the letter with some more detail):

Thank you,

Phil Tyreman

P.S. I’ve set up a new Facebook group for men in my local area. It’s called East Yorkshire Men’s Fitness Mastermind

This group is my way of “giving something back”. By that I mean, it’s not a marketing tool for my business per se. I expect some people who join will become clients/customers, but that’s not why I started the group. I did it because there’s a paucity of resources for hardworking men generally and nothing locally, so I figured I might as well do something about it.

If you wouldn’t mind joining to help me bump up the numbers, I’d appreciate it. (I need people to do this because nobody wants to join a Facebook group with barely any members).

To show my thanks, you’ll get an invite to a live Q&A I’m going to hold sometime between Christmas and New Year (date TBC).

Joining is free and takes seconds.

Here’s the group:
