Four titans who are worth learning from

Couple of weeks ago, I had a call with a guy who either owns or manages a nearby gym.

The reason?

I like to advertise my books and other information products in gyms because, unsurprisingly, that is where people who consume these sorts of products hang out.

He was not amenable to my proposal (even though I was willing to potentially pay the same “rent” as the self-employed personal trainers who operate at the facility just to stick a few posters up and leave some flyers on the desk).

Actually, he flat out refused and was rather snotty about it to boot.

Why?

He wanted the people who work in his gym to be their members’ *only* source of information.

Something that not only strikes me as terribly insecure but also detrimental to his members’ ability to meet (and exceed) their goals.

Can’t say I’m shocked, mind, given 90% of fitness “professionals” are far more interested in making money than they are actually solving their clients’ problems once and for all. (Yet if they put the latter first, they’d have a far easier time doing the former; but, alas, they are some combination of too thick and amoral to figure it out).

So.

To illustrate just how not bothered I am with people getting their information from sources who are not me (because I’m happy to admit I don’t, in fact, know everything), here are 4 experts who I have learned much from and I recommend you do the same:

1) Jim Wendler.

Jim Wendler is a former powerlifter and author of the renowned “5/3/1” training system. I believe he operates a store where you can not only purchase his books, but a bunch of other merch as well.

2) Mark Rippetoe

Mark Rippetoe has, in my opinion, done more for strength training than any other coach in the latter half of the 20th century. Not because his teachings are “advanced” or “cutting edge”; quite the contrary – his stuff is all about putting barbells in as many hands as possible and giving those beginners the most efficient and effective path for slapping on strength in those precious early months.

3) Paul Carter

Paul Carter is the author of the blog “Lift, Run, Bang” which was still up the last time I checked but he hadn’t published on it in many years. Jess tells me he has an Instagram but I’ve not looked at it so don’t know what he is currently teaching but if it is anything like his older stuff, I imagine it is stellar.

4) Dan John

Dan John is a strength coach and all-around top human being. His teachings are the foundation of all the group coaching I do (e.g. at my bootcamp) and it was one of his articles that first introduced me to the phenomenal barbell complex.

To be clear: I have nothing to gain from you checking out and potentially purchasing from these four men because I am not associated with these men in any way.

They all, however, publish excellent information that has benefited me greatly over the years.

Anyway.

Now I must pitch you something of my own because if I don’t sell my kids don’t get to eat.

Below is a link to one of my books “Shift”.

It’s a book I wrote to help men who work shifts (hence the title) or who have an unpredictable schedule for other reasons (e.g. running a business or fathering young children) continue getting stronger and in-shaperer despite not always knowing exactly what day of the week it is.

This book is not mere “theory”. Everything within is something I developed, used, and benefited from personally when I was working frankly mental rotas as an ambulance paramedic.

Thank you,

Phil Tyreman

P.S. I have been told the book is very expensive.

This is true, if you look at it as a simple book to read once and then leave on your shelf or donate to a charity shop.

However.

What you are actually getting is a complete system to follow. More of a course than a book in this regard.

Whether that makes a difference is entirely your decision, of course.
