Do you really need to eat that?

Yesterday, Mrs T and I went on a delightful little jaunt to Hull.

We’ve both been up to our eyeballs recently – her with the kiddos and the house; me preparing an extraordinary new service I aim to launch next month, gods willing – so suffice it to say, a day together was sorely needed.

Anyway, we went for lunch. The original plan was to go to an “all you can eat” place, but something about this choice didn’t sit right.

The problem?

All you can eat restaurants ain’t consistent with what I want to achieve and, more importantly, who I want to be.

I’ll explain: Firstly, the food at every all you can eat restaurant I’ve ever been to (and, believe me, I’ve been to loads) is gross.

Deep fried. Chemical laden. Lukewarm.

So, if the quality of the food isn’t the draw, that means the only reason I’d have for going is the sheer quantity of food on offer. In other words, I wanted to go so I could stuff my face.

Obviously, this isn’t at all consistent with what I want to achieve – maintaining a lean physique. Nor is it consistent with who I want to be – a good role model for my kiddos.

So what did I do?

Easy. I changed the plan.

I shared my realisation with Mrs T and we went to a nice little Italian place instead where we sat face-to-face and enjoyed a lovely three-course meal.

We ate out. We enjoyed ourselves. We feel fine today because we didn’t consume plate after plate of processed garbage.

Oh, and while you’re here…
