What follows is a long and self-indulgent missive about what is going on in my World.
So if you couldn’t care less about that, you can safely delete this email.
Otherwise, we begin:
Eighteen months ago, I began publishing an obnoxiously titled Real Paper newsletter called “The Phil Tyreman Letter”. I mostly started writing it because I was fed up with how hard it was to find high-quality training related information in this age of AI slop and algorithms pushing ragebait “hot takes”, and figured there were others who felt the same way.
I was right. There are others who feel similarly because some of them became subscribers.
But herein lies the problem.
I also give subscribers a lot of personal attention. They’re entitled to ask me whenever they like about whatever they like and, provided I am qualified to answer, get a specific, detailed, and swift response (rare is the day it takes me longer than 12 hours to respond to a message). What’s more, I proactively “chase” them every week to see how they are getting on.
Suffice it to say, this is a lot of work. Just the other day, I was talking to Jess about how it’s meant we can’t really go “away-away” because we prefer visiting remote places where there is often no internet or even 4G coverage (so I can’t tether my phone to my laptop). Of course, I could just tell my subscribers that I’m not going to be available for a week or whatever, but my integrity will not allow it.
More:
I’ve heard rumblings from people more educated on matters economic than me that Rachel from accounts might put VAT up in the autumn. A subscription to The Phil Tyreman Letter is already expensive, and a jump in VAT will make it even moreso without benefiting me in any way. (Actually, it will only make my life more difficult).
And so we get to the point:
I am still going to publish The Phil Tyreman Letter.
However.
The subscription now includes the newsletter ONLY (plus free VAT exempt bonus gifts from time to time).
The advantages of this are twofold:
1) There’s no VAT on newsletters, so the price you pay when you join will be the price you pay forever (barring sudden and significant rises in my fixed costs, e.g. the price of paper or if our dear leaders in their infinite wisdom decide to make newsletters and books subject to VAT).
2) A subscription under this new arrangement is going to be an order of magnitude less expensive than it was before.
How much less expensive?
£100 less expensive.
Meaning…
From today, you can subscribe to The Phil Tyreman Letter for £20 per month.
Significantly less than a lot of sports supplements go for these days, and I reckon getting your training toolbox topped up every month, not to mention the in-built accountability mechanism of the big cardboard box containing my teachings thunking through your letterbox (making it literally impossible to not engage with unless you are some sort of hoarder whose home resembles a rabbit warren with tunnels formed from stacks of discarded paperwork, energy drink cans, and goodness knows what else).
More:
If you subscribe before month’s end (Sunday the 31st at 23:59), you will be entitled to one free copy of one of the following books that I sell:
* The Weight Loss Manifesto
* Shift
* The Conditioning Codex
* The Constance Chronicles
* Bodyweight Buccaneer (you’ll have to wait for me to print more if you go for this one)
* Silver Era Secrets (actually a collection of three short books)
* The Greek Physique
Whether you opt for a cheaper or more expensive book (the most expensive one on that list goes for £750 when not on sale) is entirely your decision. Consider it my gift to you for putting your trust in me to help you get strong and in shape the slow way.
Even more:
New subscribers (whether they join before or after the 31st) still get a copy of Lift (the first and as Jess keeps telling me “best” book on fitness I have hitherto written), and the only way to get it will continue to be subscribing to the newsletter (the content is simply too spicy to share with those who are not fully bought into my methods and manner).
OK, those are the changes in a somewhat oversized nutshell.
If I’ve piqued your interest in subscribing, please review the New and Improved sales and terms and conditions pages to ensure your decision to subscribe is a fully informed one:

Thank you,
Phil Tyreman
P.S. My merry band of existing subscribers (hi) will continue per our current arrangement, unless they want to downgrade to the “newsletter only” subscription (there is no penalty for doing this). If that’s you, simply email me something to that effect, and I’ll get Jess to sort you out on the backend.
