Couple of years ago, I penned the first of what is now over a dozen books on fitness.
The idea for the book goes back a lot further than that, though. Specifically, February 2016, when I got it into my head that I wanted to run an internet fitness business selling eBooks to fund an aimless “digtal nomad” lifestyle.
That “dream” (thankfully) never came to fruition because I bottled it the moment I realised how much work was involved and how long it would take to make enough to live in a grotty hostel, let alone the two bedroom city centre apartment replete with a fancy coffee machine.
This pattern of starting a fitness business only to can it months or, in one case, days after getting started repeated a frankly shameful number of times in the intervening years, yet one thing that has remained constant is Jess’ quiet, steadfast support.
One way she does that is by proofreading all of my books, newsletter, courses, transcripts – basically everything I write short of these emails.
So naturally, I asked her what her favourite book of mine was.
Her response:
“Lift”, that aforementioned first fitness book I wrote.
Her rationale:
===
“You know how horoscopes can feel so accurate sometimes?
Lift is like that. I think it’s because you wrote it at a time when I was just waking up to reality so everything inside just made perfect sense.
Plus I think it’s you most “complete” philosophy. You cover society and modernity in a way that made it clear my problems with my weight and attitude towards training weren’t entirely my fault, but were my responsibility to fix. That wasn’t what I wanted to hear, but I absolutely needed to hear it.”
===
High praise indeed, from someone as bright and hardworking as she is.
However.
Lift is certainly not a perfect book by any stretch of the imagination, and there are quite a lot of things I plan to revise and expand upon when the time comes to produce the third edition.
Nevertheless, it’s a solid read packed from cover to cover with straightforward teachings you can start using immediately, so long as you’re truly ready to confront your shortcomings.
That’s no easy thing to do, to be clear, but it’s something you must do if you are to stand a snowball’s chance in Gehenna of getting and staying strong and in shape in a world that is quite literally crumbling around you.
Now for some good news:
“Lift” is available for the princely price of free.
But only if you first subscribe to my Real Paper Newsletter, as the nature of the teachings inside mean there’s literally no point in giving it to anyone who isn’t bought into my message enough to commit to learning from me on an ongoing basis.
More good news:
A subscription is £120/month which works out at a mere £4 per day (based on a 30 day month), which is less than I spent on an emergency pork pie and energy drink the other day after I overdid one of my twice weekly runs.
