Why you should never talk to internet strangers

If you’ve ever wondered why you are stuck in the pernicious cycle of training hard and getting results, only to fall off the wagon and watch your hard-won progress slip away, here’s one reason why that happens:

Over the years, I have begrudgingly come to realise most are training atop a foundation made of sand (or no foundation at all).

Why begrudgingly?

I was one of those people.

It’s not that I wasn’t warned what I was doing was dumb. Everyone worth listening to (i.e. people I knew in The Real World with sometimes decades of experience and the results to show for it) tried to drive home the importance of mastering the fundamentals BEFORE tackling a demanding lifting regime, high-intensity cardio, and so on.

But instead, I chose to listen to the internet strangers telling me CaRdIo KiLlS gAinZ and suchlike because I was too proud to admit I wasn’t particularly strong or in shape so thought myself above stuff like running and simple bodyweight workouts.

Fortunately, my rank idiocy never resulted in me falling off the wagon per se (I have trained week in, week out, planned rest weeks aside for some fifteen years as of this writing). But I have watched results I bled for (literally at times) fade away like a car cruising off into the distance on a foggy morning, most commonly as a result of completely avoidable injuries.

It is for this reason I have finally done what I ought to have done many years ago by deciding to follow what is easily the most “caveman simple” programme I have ever written.

In fact, it is so simple you can do it entirely in the great outdoors if you have access to a park with something you can do pullups or inverted rows off of. Failing that (or in preference to it, if your part of the Yookay is overrun with murdohobos and roadmen), you can do it at home if you can source a quality door pullup bar and have the cognitive wherewithal to install it correctly.

More:

Never have I ever dropped unsightly body fat so quickly without resorting to some stupid diet or other (it’s basically impossible not to lean out a bit using this approach provided you don’t eat like an utter degenerate).

And, of course, there are the hours I’ve won back from not having to haul my rear to the gym and back again (each workout takes just shy of 40 minutes inclusive of warmup and cooldown, and I start and end it at home).

The ins and outs of this method are revealed in June’s issue of “The Phil Tyreman Letter”, so you must subscribe before the print deadline (31/5 at 23:59) if you want to learn it.
