I should have been a signmaker

Hark unto a true story:

When I was at school, careers “advice” was outsourced to a multiple choice quiz everyone had to complete at some point in Year 10 (so at 14 or 15 years old) using one of five ancient desktop PCs tucked away in the corner of the library.

My result?

Signmaker.

(Most of my peers got this result as well, so either my school was apt at producing factory drones or the software was buggy or maybe even both.)

If memory serves, the role description went approximately thusly:

“You are great at repetitive tasks that require a high degree of concentration. You perform best when following straightforward instructions. You take satisfaction from seeing the finished result of your work every day. You have an affinity for heavy machinery.”

Pretty accurate, to be fair.

Apart from the fact that I am a danger to myself and others when around anything more potent than a hairdryer.

There is no “point” to this dumb story other than to highlight that the qualities of a good signmaker are qualities shared by people who are able to get strong and in shape without abusing illegal drugs or following pants-on-stupid approaches that leave them burned out and injured after a handful of months.

In other words, what I am selling is not fancy or exciting. Nor does it deliver results very quickly at all (although you will enjoy the “finished result” regularly in that you will actually consistently complete workouts you know are efficient and effective).

No need to interface with heavy machinery, though.

Unless you like leg presses and stuff, in which case you are welcome to have at it.

All right, enough of this.

If you want to work with me personally and privately, the way to go about it is to subscribe to my real paper newsletter called “The Phil Tyreman Letter”.

Subscribers get:

* A copy of a book containing a comprehensive strategy for getting strong and in shape, plus all the tactics needed to put it into action (the book is only available to my newsletter subscribers),

* Accountability in the form of my (in)famous “Monday Message”,

* Access to my large and shapely brain for assistance with anything I am qualified to offer assistance with (form critiques, programme tweaks/overhauls, and so on),

* Various other things.
