There are days when I wonder where I would be with my fitness business had I started it when I first had the idea all the way back in 2013.
It is not an easy line of thought to go down.
Why?
In all likelihood, I would be much further along. And not just for the obvious reason that I’d have been at it for roughly an extra ten years.
The internet was a very different place back then. Much less centralised (not to mention censorious), with plenty of traffic up for the taking for independent blogs and the like.
It would have taken only a modicum of effort to start up a wordpress or blogspot blog and hook it up to an email marketing provider. Then only a fraction more to begin creating informative and entertaining eBooks to sell to the subscribers that would inevitably trickle in.
Yet I did nothing.
Why?
Laziness.
No other word for it, I am ashamed to say.
There were no financial barriers (all the infrastructure I mentioned was free) and I could not claim the technical side was beyond my capabilities (anyone who can read and follow basic instructions can get this stuff set up).
I simply didn’t do it because I preferred to waste my days off playing pokemon and watching proto-brainrot on YouTube while complaining to anyone who would listen about how much I hated my job.
Whatever.
There’s no use crying over spilt milk.
All I can do now is crack on in the manner I should have done all those years ago, even though it is objectively harder because I am older, with far more responsibilities than I did as a bright-eyed and bushy-tailed 22 year old and far less energy to attend to them with.
Moreover, while I will absolutely not go as far with this business as I may have done, there is still plenty of progress up for the taking over the years ahead.
Obviously everything I’ve just written applies equally to the noble pursuit of getting strong and in shape.
Especially to those people who are prone to thinking they are too long in the tooth to do much about their situation and kick themselves for not making better choices when they were younger.
If that’s you, it’s worth keeping in mind:
1) The former is unlikely to be true, and,
2) You can’t do anything about the latter so there’s no point lambasting yourself about it.
So you’re far better off focusing on taking the right actions moving forward, in my opinion.
Actions which may include paying for information, advice, and support to get moving towards a fitter, stronger, and more aesthetically pleasing form.
