Behold the two options you have for getting into shape:
1) The Twelve Week Transformation Programme
Not all are twelve weeks long and you will see eight, six, and even four week protocols advertised.
Regardless of length, the underlying principle is the same.
For the duration you:
* Train very, very hard (typically involving more and longer workouts)
* Eat very, very clean (calorie counting, macro tracking, with little to no flexibility)
And, in a lot of cases, you will be encouraged to “supplement” with drugs like clenbuterol to raise your metabolic rate (so you burn more fat and feel energised despite eating insufficient food) and testosterone of some description (to maintain and even build muscle mass while in a calorie deficit).
The above “recipe” is responsible for probably 80% of “before and after” photographs PTs use to advertise their services.
It’s derived from the world of bodybuilding, wherein competitors drastically increase their training and decrease their food intake in the leadup to a competition to strip as much fat from their bodies as possible.
Typically, they will start this process (which they call “prep”) about twelve weeks out from their show – hence, twelve week transformation programmes.
These programmes are by their very design “short term” solutions.
So, anyone who tries to follow them for more than a few months will certainly fall off the wagon and, sadly, may develop a cornucopia of physical and/or mental illnesses.
2) The Long Road
The Long Road is always boring, often frustrating, and seldom delivers rapid results.
Realistically, you are looking at at least six months before you see substantial improvements to how you look.
Performance gains (strength, cardiorespiratory fitness, flexibility, etc.) come more quickly, but rarely as fast or as substantially as you would probably like.
Worse, you will face extended periods of time where you make no progress (and sometimes lose progress) for seemingly no reason at all.
But.
Keep plugging away and in a decade you will have built so much strength, athleticism, and character you might as well be a different person altogether.
I only deal in Option Two.
Something that stops 99% of people from even considering working with me to get strong and in shape.
No matter.
I would much prefer to work with the 1% of people who have the discipline and patience to see training in terms of years and decades instead of weeks and months.
