Question from a potential client:

“Only one more question from me, can I do the workouts you suggest without going to a gym?”
===
A very good question.
The short answer is yes.
The longer and much more interesting answer is as follows:
You can adapt probably 90% of my training programmes for use with little (or even no) equipment.
Indeed, if you’ve not trained at a gym for a while it’s better that you do, so you can build up your baseline strength on a steady diet of basic bodyweight movements like pushups, squats, situps, and burpees, maybe supplemented with some light dumbbell work, before you do battle with the barbell.
I actually wish I did this back when I started.
Would have saved me a lot of pain and misery. (I seriously injured my back deadlifting about three months into training because I lacked “general physical preparedness” from spending my teens playing World of Warcraft instead of sports).
The other upshot of adapting my programmes is that it forces you to take ownership of your training.
A lot of PTs won’t force this because they’re worried you won’t buy unless they spoon-feed you. It’s an understandable concern (albeit not excusable) as most people aren’t willing or able to assume the weighty mantle of responsibility.
But assume that mantle you must, if you want to get results *and* keep them for more than a few weeks.
In any case, if you’re in my world long enough, the chances are you’ll join a gym or invest in building one at home because you’ll come to accept barbell-based strength training is the most efficient and effective way for the natural lifter to transform his body.
You don’t have to, and I certainly won’t make you – but you’ll probably want to.
Oh, and one last thing:
You don’t have to figure out how to modify my programmes by yourself. (Although you’re welcome to if that is your choice).
If you ever want advice or have a question I’m qualified to answer, you need only send me an email or WhatsApp (voice note or text, whatever you prefer), and I’ll sort you out – usually within 12 hours.
