Did you know that many gym owners prefer it when members *don’t* use their facilities?
In some cases, it’s an intrinsic part of their business model.
As was the case for a gym I attended about ten years ago.
One morning I got talking to the manager about how many members they had at the facility.
He said they had something like 4000 paying members, which I thought was a lot considering the gym was very small.
I asked him about the discrepancy, and that’s when he told me (paraphrasing):
“Only 10% of our members are active, which we define as coming more than once a week”.
Admittedly, I am no mathematician. However, by my calculations, that means just 400 of those 4000 members were actually taking meaningful steps towards their fitness goals, yet the gym owner was happy to take their money regardless.
To be fair, it’s the smart way to run a fitness business – if you have no integrity whatsoever.
Members not using the gym means less wear and tear on the kit, lower staffing costs, less cash spent maintaining the changing facilities, and, of course, cheaper rent (because you can get away with using a smaller building).
All of which means more profit in the bank.
The same applies to personal trainers and online coaches, too.
A lot of them run memberships, and while I’m not for a moment suggesting they’re insincere in their desire for their clients to get results, they tend not to be overly concerned about clients who don’t engage.
If anything, it works to their advantage. (Fewer people on calls, emails/texts to respond to, etc.).
I too run a membership, but the difference is, I’d genuinely struggle to sleep at night if I knew my clients weren’t engaging with my material.
That’s just one of the reasons why I still send out a monthly newsletter that’s printed on Real Paper.
You simply cannot ignore it because it lands on your doormat with a thud every month without fail. (Unless you’re some sort of hoarder who doesn’t clean his house).
Nor can you forget you’re subscribed for the same reason.
Consider it your regular “nudge” to avail yourself of my personal support and advice with your training or anything else I’m qualified to assist you with.
Back to the printed newsletter:
March’s issue is all about cardio.
It contains a suite of strategies and tactics you can use to quickly get your house in order insofar as your cardiovascular fitness is concerned.
And, when you do, you’ll never look back – given the profoundly positive impact it will have on your physique, energy levels, sleep quality, and, potentially, your relationship with your wife and/or girlfriend.
The deadline to subscribe in time to receive it is midnight GMT tonight (29th) – just a few hours away.
This is a serious deadline.
If you subscribe after midnight, you won’t get March’s newsletter or this month’s bonus (my prestigious “Running Starter Kit”).
