Train hard but can’t get lean? Read this

If you’ve been training for a couple of years but you’re struggling to get (and stay) lean, continue reading…

Let’s be honest with one another. We all start going to the gym because we want to look better.

Sure, it might not be the only reason, but it’s a reason – and usually the main reason.

Despite what fat acceptance activists and other members of the wokerati would like you to believe, there’s nothing wrong with this. At all.

Wanting to improve physical appearance is no more or less noble than wanting to be more well-read, a better artist, or anything else.

However… it ain’t easy.

See, what usually happens when men start training is they put on muscle to the point they look good in clothes. But… they’ve still got a gut. Still got love handles. Still got man boobs.

They’re still soft and pudgy, despite working their backsides off three, four, five, times per week.

So why is this?

Well, a full and proper explanation is beyond the scope of this article but the short answer is the way they train and eat isn’t aligned with their goals.

I’ll explain: Most training programmes are geared towards helping you build muscle. No bad thing in and of itself, but when you’re overweight you don’t need more muscle… you need to lose fat!

The truth is, most guys have plenty of muscle, they just can’t see it because it’s shrouded behind a layer of blubber. So just spending a few months getting their body fat levels down would have a profoundly positive effect on their physique – far more than adding an extra centimetre to their arms or whatever. (It will also make it easier for them to build more muscle later on, but that’s an article for another time).

If what I’ve just written makes sense, you’re going to love The Phil Tyreman Letter.
