I despair.
Friend of mine showed me a screenshot of some fitness model on Instagram.
Huge muscles, shredded to the bone, and stood on a bodybuilding stage looking like the Incredible Hulk if he’d fallen into a vat full of bronzer. Caption is them whinging, whining, moaning, and complaining about people accusing them of taking gear.
Right.
Guys as natural as I am a world-renowned dipterologist.
Listen: I am not a morality cop. I couldn’t care less about what other people stick in their bodies. Moreover, I don’t expect people to own up to using gear because it’s illegal in most of the world.
However, there’s a marked difference between maintaining a dignified silence and outright lying by saying you’ve achieved your results without “help”.
Maybe this guy is delusional and genuinely believes he’s popping vitamin shots into his butt on a weekly basis. I don’t know. But what I do know is all these influencer types claiming to be natural when they aren’t can have a pernicious effect on your outlook if you don’t consciously guard against it.
Much of what you see on the internet isn’t real. Hence, you’d do well to not use it as a measuring stick for your own progress.
Don’t get me wrong, this isn’t a call for you to “settle” and resign yourself to the misery of mediocrity. Just don’t feel bad if you can’t manage a 300kg deadlift while rocking 8% body fat despite training your backside off for years.
Anyway, I’ve a thing to sell you — if it’s right.
It’s my (to my knowledge) one-of-a-kind monthly printed newsletter, The Phil Tyreman Letter.
