Why people think I’m a bit weird

It was Jess’ birthday yesterday. We celebrated by taking our usual mile-and-a-half-ish walk to town for an energy drink at Tesco. (We sit on the sill opposite the checkouts and watch the world go by. Much nicer than some sterile coffee shop).

Anyway, this got me thinking just how ingrained physical activity – specifically walking – is in our lives. You see, the two of us will happily walk around our local area for any reason (or no reason) together or alone come rain or shine.

I’m the first to admit this is unusual or maybe even a bit weird.

For most, a walk has to have a purpose.

Perhaps you need to get something from the corner shop or fancy a big hike through the countryside. Whatever. The exact reason isn’t important. What I’m getting at is, absent this reason they simply won’t go.

And you know what?

It’s a crying shame.

Why?

Taking a daily walk is, without a shadow of a doubt, the most efficient and effective way to get (and stay) lean.

It doesn’t eat into your recovery from the rest of your training (in fact, it can actually aid recovery for a bunch of reasons). It builds your gas tank. And, best of all, you get to enjoy some “you” time outside in The Real World which is a far better use of your time than lounging on your sofa watching nonsense on YouTube or mindlessly scrolling through your social media feeds.

Speaking of vegetating on the sofa, if you feel you “don’t have the time” to take a daily 30-minute, you’ll free up a bunch by putting your phone down.

But you already knew that.

It’s ultimately a question of how much you actually want to get into shape.

Anyway, while I have your attention, I want to tell you about The Phil Tyreman Letter.

It’s a monthly 12-page printed newsletter (no electronic version exists) containing the strategies and tactics you need to build a powerful physique – even if you’re busy with work and family.

Subscribers get access to me via email on a “virtually unlimited” basis (so no asking me the same question over and over again expecting a different answer), plus discounts on certain offers and some other goodies to further sweeten the pot.

It’s definitely not for people who are surgically attached to their mobile phones, though.
