Behold proof I am not kidding when I say proper training will enhance your whole entire life (so not just your looks, health, respectability, etc):
Client of mine from about a year ago occasionally gets in touch to tell me about how the approach to training I taught him has greatly improved his ability to push his recruitment business forward despite the economic basket case that is the YooKay economy (which is objectively more akin to that of a developing South American country than a prosperous Western nation).
Obviously being significantly fitter (in the cardiorespiratory sense) and stronger helps with the physical demands of his work (long hours, high stress). And having larger and more shapely muscles is certainly a boon for his self esteem (important for when his best laid plans fall over).
But more important than any of that, or so he tells me, are my “80% Days”.
It’s no secret that I am not a fan of pushing workouts to the point you hear Jesus talking to you. Frankly, I find the whole “train insane or stay the same” approach cringeworthy and asinine in equal measure.
Much better, in my humbly correct opinion, to shoot for “good enough” and be done with it. That way, you’ll be easily able to chain together a great many sessions without being forced into an unplanned break through injury or because you’re so burned out on training you’d rather peel your corneas from your eyeballs than lift weights or go for a run.
Better:
You’ll probably end up making more progress in the long run, and all it will “cost” you is finishing your sessions standing tall and proud while feeling broadly better than when you started instead of bent double and hobbling about caked in sweat and misery.
Meandering back to my former client, he’s found applying the principle of 80% Days to his business as well as his training beyond helpful for making sure he does what he needs to do and no more (which, speaking from personal experience, is very hard to do when the economy is in the toilet). I’ve no idea if it will be profitable for him, but I’d be surprised if it isn’t in the long run. And even if it’s not, I’d much rather be making difficult decisions about my future from a position of strength because I’m well rested and know, with absolute certainty, that I did all the needful.
But that’s just me.
It goes without saying nothing in this email should be taken as “business advice”; merely an example of how what I teach can, with much critical thinking and patient effort, be of benefit in all sorts of different ways.
On that note…
