Constantly switching things up with your training is one surefire way to torpedo your progress.
It’s for this reason that I typically recommend people stick with mostly the same exercises for at least three months, if not somewhat longer, before substituting them for something else.
However.
I am acutely aware that this is a Very Boring way to train.
For some, that’s not a tremendous problem. (Ironically, I’ve found that people who have been training consistently the longest tend to mind doing the same thing over and over again the least, likely because they both know it works and no longer see training as entertainment.)
But for many, the boredom is too much so they stop training with the needful enthusiasm to get results before they stop training altogether a few weeks to a few months later.
The remedy?
To quote eminent strength and conditioning coach, businessman, and author, Jim Wendler, from a forum post he wrote on the subject of training women:
===
“Have them do “girl” stuff after the main work (jumps/main lift/supplemental) to appease them. It’s like giving an athlete time to do curls – it’s called being a good coach.”
===
Translation:
All good training programmes allow the trainee leeway to do what they want to do, provided they also do the things they need to do.
Naff programmes only allow for one or the other.
Consequently, you won’t be surprised to read that all of the training programmes in all of my Very Expensive Books offer plenty of choice within robust frameworks that make sure you are training in a balanced, sustainable way to drive lasting gains in size, strength, leanness, and cardiorespiratory fitness.
Those books are all available for 50% off between now and 23:59 on Christmas Eve (24th).

P.S. The instructions on how to claim the discount are on the linked page. I won’t respond to any permutations of “How do I get the discount?” and will probably remove those who ask from my list for being unforgivably lazy.
