What nobody is brave enough to say about obesity

News just in: Over a billion people are now considered obese, according to new research.

More –

* Obesity is more common than being underweight in most nations.

* Obesity rates have doubled between 1990 and 2022. And,

* Obesity rates have quadrupled among children and adolescents.

Listen: What I am about to say is controversial.

There is a non-zero chance you will disagree with me strongly, and if you are the sort of person who cannot stand having their worldview challenged, I advise you to avail yourself of the unsubscribe button in the footer and carry on with your life.

You have been warned.

We begin.

I am convinced that obesity is fundamentally a “personal responsibility” problem.

While it’s true environmental factors play a part, nobody is sitting there with a gun to your head threatening to pull the trigger if you don’t shovel garbage down your throat.

Likewise, gyms are abundant and cheap. And if you are so hard up you can’t stretch to £20 per month for a membership, running, walking, and doing bodyweight exercise is free.

The internet exists, which means you have access to more information than you’d find in even the most well-stocked library – via a device that fits in the palm of your hand.

There really is no excuse.

In fact, the reasons people give for their inaction like “I don’t have time” or “I don’t know what programme to follow” or “I’m confused about what food is healthy and what isn’t” are nothing more than feeble attempts to justify their laziness of mind and body.

To quote Solzhenitsyn:

===

“We know that they are lying, they know that they are lying, they even know that we know they are lying, we also know that they know we know they are lying too, they of course know that we certainly know they know we know they are lying too as well, but they are still lying.”

===

But it’s not all doom and gloom.

Obesity being a choice rather than something that “just happens” is actually a Very Good Thing because it means you have the power to do something about it.

You don’t have to resign yourself to a gloomy future of chronic illness and just plain feeling like you’re not the man your family deserves.

If you don’t want to.

Something to think about.

Anyway.

My diary is once again open for private calls.

However, I need to filter those who simply want to pick my large and shapely brain from those who are serious about working with a personal trainer but aren’t sure if I’m the man for the job.

To that end, I charge £150 for an hour.

You’ll get that back if I decide I can’t help you or we agree to work together.

I think this is fair, but only you can decide if that’s the case from your perspective.

If you’d like to talk, reply to this email with your name using the subject line CALL, and I’ll send you an invoice.

Once paid, I’ll send you a link to my calendar wherein you can book a time to suit.

Thank you,

Phil Tyreman

P.S. I’m aware certain serious mental and physical health conditions make it impossible for some people to manage their weight.

But let’s not pretend that’s most people.
