Are thus:
Reason One: They can’t afford it
At least, that’s what they tell themselves.
A subscription costs £20 per month, a sum basically anyone in gainful employment can spare (and the few who genuinely can’t would probably benefit more from getting their financial house in order than reading about training on the internet).
Those claiming otherwise are just lying to themselves and to me, because the truth of the matter is they CAN afford it…
… if they want to.
That some aren’t interested doesn’t bother me in the slightest, however I’d be lying if I said hearing people plead poverty over a trivial amount that’s considerably less than many of them spend on sports supplements they know don’t do jack for their results isn’t a little irksome.
Reason Two: They don’t like reading
Let me tell you a story:
Probably a year or so ago, I got to talking with a father who was desperately worried about the example he was setting to his son by being fat and out of shape (not to mention the manifest risk he might expire before he saw his son get married or else become a burden upon him through disability brought on by his lifestyle).
It was a productive conversation.
Right up until he told me he does not read. At all.
He assured me he wasn’t illiterate or anything, he just finds holding a book or newsletter and reading it too much effort, so he gets his info from TikToks and the odd social media post instead.
And here’s me thinking brainrot was a condition exclusively affecting the young.
Anyway.
There’s nout I can do to help someone who won’t read. They lack discipline, patience, and a meaningful attention span – all of which are fundamental requirements for getting strong and in shape. Moreover, if they can’t push through whatever aversion they have to the printed word, what hope do they have of pushing through the manifold and varied discomforts brought about by productive training?
None.
Reason Three: They think what I teach is too advanced for them
Believe it or not, I’ve no interest in working with “advanced” trainees because I am not one of them.
Bodybuilders, powerlifters, footballers, rugby players, track and field athletes – they’re all better off working with someone else, unless they are “hobbyists” who don’t take their sport seriously or have been out of action for so long they’re pretty much starting again from scratch (but even then, they’re still probably better off looking elsewhere due to – often inaccurate – notions of what “good” training looks like that cause them to reject my teachings out of hand).
More:
I don’t do complicated. Heck, most of my programmes are designed to have you get in “punch the clock” and get out, meaning there is no bookkeeping whatsoever (unless you’re into that sort of thing).
This is because I am in the business of serving ordinary people, with jobs, families, and varied interests outside of fitness who are looking for straightforward ways to get (and stay) strong and in shape they can use even when they’ve got a lot on their plate.
Reason Four – They don’t trust me
Now this I understand. After all, anyone can say anything on the internet.
Heck, I’d be wary of giving money to me, given I am just a random bloke with something like ten Instagram followers who writes a lot of shouty emails.
So let’s change that.
If you’d like to speak with me live so you can judge for yourself if I am worth listening to, let alone spending money with, you may book a free Diagnostic Call via the below link (scroll down for the calendar).
