the true “genetic equaliser” in modern bodybuilding

Yesterday’s missive on the BMI prompted an excellent question from a Silver Era Secrets graduate (who shall remain anonymous):

===

“On the subject of the email, doesn’t the “BMI because muscle” thing capture PED users accurately?

Granted, only very few people like Dan Ruhl, Ronnie Coleman or Dorian Yates and their ilk are blessed with genetics to handle that much PEDs and gain that much muscle without dying, going nuts or both TBF, perhaps 1-2% of obese BMI’s do you think? Can’t be much more surely? I hear of plenty of guys in the 120+kg range who claim sub 12%. I appreciate that doesn’t mean they aren’t dying, nuts or both.

Not to say they’re not massively overweight TBF, though strictly speaking it’s a possibility that drug users can get up to a BMI of around 35-40 at sub 10% body fat, can’t they?”

===

Short story long, it’s certainly possible for PED abusers to get up to a 35+ BMI with single-digit bodyfat.

Very few will manage this due to the supreme effort involved, not to mention the diamond-hard constitution required to resist the side effects of taking monstrous amounts of a plethora of medication (the true “genetic equaliser” in modern bodybuilding).

I also suspect, though cannot prove due to the paucity of data, that it’s possible to get a high overweight or low obese BMI “because of muscle” by taking gear in the fashion your average GymBro does. (Something only the elite can manage without the aid of these substances.)

However.

I have noticed that most in that group could also stand to lose a few pounds as well. Often sporting buoyant bewbies and moon faces that are as much caused by adipose tissue as they are by gynaecomastia and water retention respectively.

I concede they’re typically very good at getting very lean for special occasions, but seldom do they ever stay lean for more than a handful of weeks after their “cut”. Obviously, this takes a dreadful toll on their physical and mental health, not to mention the needless additional risks they open themselves to by choosing to abuse drugs for aesthetic purposes.

Not that they’re interested in hearing any of this, so extreme is their cognitive dissonance. Honestly, I’d have better luck trying to convince a brick wall to join me for a 10k than get a steroid/TRT abuser to see the error of their ways.

Hence both my “zero-tolerance no drugs policy” (which disqualifies anyone who takes or wants to take PEDs from ever working with me in any capacity) and rigid adherence to the methods taught and practiced by bodybuilders between 1940 and 1959 (which don’t involve bulking and cutting in the manner done by most today).

Methods I detail in my little yellow book “The Muscle and Strength Building Manual for the Natural Trainee” which, unlike most of my books, is rather inexpensive coming in at under a tenner for the paperback or a mere £3.50 for the eBook version.

You will notice there is just one review and that is because I haven’t gotten around to promoting this or any of my other Amazon titles seriously yet. So if you’re not happy to gamble the price of a coffee and cake (or just a coffee if you opt for the e-version), give this a miss.

It’s available exclusively from Amazon via the below link:
