The perils of switching off over Christmas

A concept I have written about before that applies especially to Christmas time is:

“The On/Off Switch”

This describes the tendency to throw training, eating, and living well out of the window at certain times (e.g. at the weekend or while on holiday).

The problem with this isn’t so much the “damage” a few days to a couple of weeks of indulgence will do in and of themselves (there will be some but not nearly as much as the doomsayers like to claim to justify their own malfunctional relationship with training).

Instead, issues arise from the time it takes to get properly back into the swing of things. Moreover, the longer the break, the longer it takes – meaning it’s not uncommon for people who take Christmas off to not be back training properly until early February.

As you might expect, the solution is not to flip the switch.

Easier said than done, particularly over Christmas when temptation abounds, gyms are shut, and you are obliged to alter your routine to suit family commitments.

So.

If you are at all concerned about falling off the wagon with your training over Christmas, I heartily recommend you sign up for “The Christmas Survival Guide”.

The deadline to do so is 23:59 tonight (14th).

When you subscribe you will get:

* A 14-day email course mansplaining my methods for keeping on track when circumstances make doing so Very Difficult,

* My (in)famous Virtually Unlimited Support, entitling you to ask me anything I am qualified to answer and receive a specific, detailed, and prompt response,

* A copy of my most expensive book “The Constance Chronicles” to see you right in the New Year.

The fee is £60.
