Scientific evidence to rustle steroid-users’ jimmies

Real values always cost you something.

As mine often do in the case of my zero-tolerance “no drugs” policy that excludes people who have used, use, or want to use steroids and/or other performance-enhancing substances.

See, I regularly have to turn away enquiries on this basis, which obviously costs me a lot of money.

However.

There are a bunch of reasons why I don’t train steroid users.

Not all of them are ideological.

For example, it’s thought that steroids have a damaging effect on the tendons.

From an (admittedly, old) article published in the journal, “Medicine and science in sport and exercise”:

===

“Anabolic steroid use paralleled with exercise may lead to dysplasia of collagen fibrils, which can decrease the tensile strength of tendon. Changes in tendon’s crimp morphology have been shown to occur, as well, which may alter the rupturing strain of tendon and the normal biomechanics of the extremities”

===

Not just a “jab in the bum” as many quack coaches would have you believe.

Fact is, steroids and the like change the body and mind in ways that make it fundamentally unsafe for any PT to advise on what to do or how to do it.

Even the most basic lifting programme that would pose no danger whatsoever to someone who trains naturally could cause a catastrophic muscle tear in a steroid user.

And that’s before we get into heart attack and stroke which, like it or not, are more likely to occur in steroid users and precipitated by vigorous exercise.

Bottom line:

I’m happy to admit that I don’t know what I don’t know, and I’ve no idea whatsoever how to train steroid users safely.

I don’t even know if it’s possible.

Anyway, if you are not a steroid user, you are more than welcome to book a consultation with me.

There is a fee.

When you book, you’ll get an hour to talk with me about whatever you like training-wise.

Be aware that it’s only an hour’s call, so please only bring ONE problem you’d like me to help you solve.

Pay for the call at the link below.

I’ll email you a link to my calendar promptly once I’ve received confirmation of your payment:
