Saying the BMI is invalid because it doesn’t account for muscle mass is the same as a smoker saying they knew someone who smoked 20-a-day and lived ’til 105.
You ain’t a professional athlete, and you know it.
Cope and seethe all you like, but it doesn’t change the facts.
If your BMI is deranged, it’s almost certainly because you’re carrying too much body fat.
I’m not for a moment disputing you have a little more muscle than the average Joe. But what good is that if it’s covered by a thick layer of blubber?
Do you really feel proud of your body when you take your shirt off and see love handles spilling over your waistband?
Food for thought.
Onward.
Nowadays, 37.9% of adults in England are overweight, and a further 25.9% are obese. By my calculations, that means 63% of the population has a BMI that’s out of kilter.
And considering that I am a fat loss coach, and you are still reading, I reckon you’re among the 63%.
If I’m right – and I suspect I am – then know that I understand the position you’re in.
I’ve been fat. Very fat.
It sucks.
And yet, I didn’t un-fat myself by denying the severity of my situation or wallowing in a pit of misery and despair.
I figured out what needed to be done, and then I did those things.
Was it easy?
No.
Did I get it right all the time?
No.
But I kept on keeping on, and now I have no problems whatsoever maintaining a reasonably lean physique year-round.
Moreover, I figured all of this stuff out on my own through study and good old-fashioned trial and error.
To be clear, this makes me an outlier.
One study my wife made me aware of found the odds of an obese man obtaining a normal body weight were just 1 in 210. (For context, in American roulette, the odds of hitting a single number bet are 37 to 1).
Ergo, I can say with some confidence that if you try to do this on your own you will fail.
Have at it if you must, but do so knowing the odds are not in your favour.
Alternatively, if you’re serious about getting into the best shape of your life for yourself and your family, let’s talk.
I guarantee your results on my private coaching programme. (I am, so far as I know, the only person in my line of work to offer this). So, really, it’s a bit of a no-brainer.
