Potential solution to the problem of feeling like nobody cares about your efforts

This morning while I was training in the park with nought but the rustling trees and occasional tweeting bird to keep me company, I got to thinking about just how lonely this training lark can be.

It’s not something I personally struggle with. Quite the contrary, I relish the solitude; going so far as to deliberately take my workouts when I know there will few (ideally no) others around, whether that’s in the gym, the park, or even my running route.

Yet my experience and practice is most likely not the norm, if my experience of aiding others in the noble pursuit of getting strong(er) and (more) in shape is anything to go by.

For example, I am repeatedly told by clients that my infamous “Monday Message” is one of, if not the, thing they enjoy most about working with me.

For the uninitiated, the Monday Message is nothing more than a simple email containing a little pertinent personal preamble (I write every single one manually despite all the AI Bros and “Make Money Online” coaches telling me I should automate it) followed by three questions that lend themselves to both short and long answers (a handful of my clients literally send me essays every week).

Clients are under no obligation to answer, although almost all of them do every single week without fail (which should tell you much about the detail and quality of the responses they get). Moreover, given the obscenely high response rate, I suspect that knowing there is someone in their corner with their best interests at heart taking a regular, personal interest in their training and wellbeing in general means a lot to them.

But that is just my impression.

You are welcome to a different interpretation, if you wish.

Anyway, to bring this full circle, as well as getting the Monday Message, Phil Tyreman Letter subscribers will get a complete breakdown of my new “No Gym” training regime in June’s issue.

It’s a routine you can do in the great outdoors (perhaps in your local park, as I do). If that’s not what you want (because you’re worried about safety, don’t live near anywhere suitable, or simply aren’t interested in training outdoors), the workouts can be done at home, using the bare minimum of equipment that’s easy to acquire if you don’t already have it.
