Cometh a question from a secret-squirrel client:
===
“I had a question about what you recommend as the best builder for triceps? I’m doing dips atm, but think I might rotate out for pull downs or skull crushers?”
===
In order of my preference:
1) Rope Pushdowns
2) French Presses (essentially an upright skullcrusher)
3) Close Grip Bench Presses
French presses would be my number one because they are very old-fashioned and I am nothing if not a fan of exercises favoured by our drug-free forebears. However, I find they irritate my elbows a little if I do them for too long, so rope pushdowns pip them to the top spot because they are more sustainable (for me).
In any case, I recommend most people rotate arm exercises on a somewhat regular basis (every four weeks or so). Not for any muscle or strength-building advantage, but to maintain enthusiasm by keeping things fresh.
(Better to swap arm, ab, and calve exercises around than your “big” movements like back squats and overhead presses as the latter are what drives your progress and you cannot make meaningful progress if you are pinging about like a housefly.)
OK, that is enough free value for today.
