How to train effectively at home

Here is an example of a workout I would do if I was forced train at home:

1. Warm up with a 5-minute walk around the block followed by light stretching of all major muscle groups.

2. Circuit consisting of:

A. 30 star jumps

B. 15 bodyweight squats

C. 10 clapping pushups

D. 5 v-sits

3. Repeat 9 more times for 10 total rounds

4. Cool down with another 5-minute walk followed by some slightly more intense stretching of all the major muscle groups.

This wouldn’t be the only workout I would do if I found myself without access to a gym for whatever reason, but it’s certainly proof that being in such a situation is not an excuse to do nothing.

On a somewhat related note, I am actually using the above workout and similar to supplement my other training at the moment (albeit I am only doing 5 rounds rather than 10, as it’s in addition to rather than a replacement for the stuff I’m getting up to in the gym and out on the road).

Results have thus-far been pleasing. I’m a little leaner, ache less after “heavy” training, and my two kiddos get to see me doing the needful.

That last point is especially important, given how critical kids seeing their parents engaging in training is if they are going to take up the habit themselves. (They also love to join in which is cute, if a little troublesome when they get under my feet).

Much wisdom has just been imparted unto you.

What you do with it is entirely your decision.

Something else that is entirely your decision is whether or not you sling a few hundred smackaroos in my direction for all the information, advice, and support you could possibly need to write, follow, and benefit from your very own training programmes.

Mine is an efficient, effective, and sustainable methodology – engineered with the man (and, occasionally, woman) whose life cannot revolve around the pursuit of fitness, yet wants to be strong regardless.
