A subscriber who shall remain anonymous recently shared a LinkedIn post he had written with me on the subject of coaching.

Very good.
I actually read this to Jess and she said that it’s obvious you understand the root of the problem, which is a rarity these days.
The part about not paying someone forever is especially clever.
I occasionally talk about the vicious and virtuous cycles of coaching.
An example of the former is:
Overweight person decides to lose weight >> Hires PT >> Loses some weight >> Falls off wagon >> Gets fat again >> Decides to lose weight >> Hires same PT (because it “worked” last time) >> Loses some weight >> Falls off wagon >> Gets fat again >> And so on, and so on.
Whereas the latter goes:
Overweight person decides to lose weight >> Hires PT >> Loses some weight >> Keeps weight off and decides they want to get strong >> Continues working with PT >> Gets strong >> Maintains strength and decides they want to get their cardio sorted >> And so on, and so on.
Any PT who is not at least trying to do the latter with all their mind, body, and soul is a charlatan, in my opinion.

Appropriate, given I sometimes catch some flak for not allowing people to re-subscribe to “The Phil Tyreman Letter” if they cancel.
This would be deeply unethical, if all I was doing was showing them how to solve the same problem over and over again per the “vicious cycle” above.
Except, that’s not what I’m doing because no two issues explore the same problem from the same angle creating the right environment for the “virtuous cycle” to emerge; and the “no coming back” policy further re-enforces that (because people who don’t use the information will stop paying, and I don’t want them to keep coming back over and over again for help with the same problem).
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
Committing to a subscription with me is a big deal, even though the monthly cost is less than some bags of whey protein, because there’s no coming back if you decide you’re not quite ready yet.
This is part of the reason why I created my three month programme, “Silver Era Secrets”.
It follows the same format as “The Phil Tyreman Letter” (instructional material printed on Real Paper and delivered once monthly, plus Yours Baldly’s infamous “Virtually Unlimited” support), so clients get an uncensored view of what it’s like to work with me on an ongoing basis.
If at the end, they want to continue the working relationship, they are welcome to do so.
If not, that’s fine too.
