How to start getting strong and in shape

Lately, I’ve been swapping emails with a handful of earnest, hardworking folk who are yet to start their quest for a powerful physique.

Here is what I would do, if I were them:

1) Lift weights two times per week using a full body routine. Ideally built around compound lifts (squats, presses, rows, etc.) using mainly a barbell. But failing that machines, dumbbells, or even your own bodyweight work just fine to get started.

2) Do some form of “hard” cardio two times per week. Running is best for this, unless your joints can’t handle it, in which case cycling is fine. Best done outdoors for character building.

3) Walk every day without fail for at least 30 minutes, if not forty five minutes or even an hour if you’re really serious. “Every day” includes Christmas and your birthday. Don’t whinge, just do it.

4) Eat the things you know you ought to eat and eat less of the stuff you know you ought not to eat. Important “eat the things you know you ought to eat” is not licence to stuff yourself to bursting with those things. You are not a degenerate.

5) Start dressing better. Nice clothes probably won’t be overly comfortable when you are out of shape. This will hopefully prompt you to keep doing items 1-4. Also, you will instantly become more presentable – regardless of your physical condition – which will do wonders for how others perceive you, and, more importantly, how you perceive yourself.

Those are the things I would start doing right now, today if I wasn’t already.

I suspect even those who are already training in some way, shape, or form are missing one or more of the above ingredients.

A good thing, then, that most are covered in my three month programme “Silver Era Secrets” (I won’t help you dress better or give you specific diet advice because I am a PT not a style consultant or registered dietitian).

Please read the sales page very carefully before committing, to make sure your decision is an informed one:
