If you spend any time looking into how the greats trained before steroids came on the scene, you’ll quickly notice how almost all of them did the following:
* Trained full body around three days per week (to allow four days for recovery and muscle growth).
* Used mostly barbell exercises supplemented with a modest amount of dumbbell, cable, and machine work.
* Spent a fair amount of time doing things like situps that are considered verboten by a lot of PTs these days.
* Emphasised symmetry and balance over size and strength (without using this as an excuse to train like a pansy).
* Avoided stress wherever possible (as Peary Rader, founder of the famous Iron Man magazine, once wrote, “You must eliminate worry from your life. It helps matters not at all. It is just a parasite on your energy.”)
Not all of them did all of the above, at all times, of course.
But that’s the pattern you’ll see if you start looking into how to get strong and in shape without pumping yourself full of Heaven knows what.
It’s also broadly what I’ll teach you when you join “Silver Era Secrets”, so if the idea of training like that has piqued your interest, you will find all of the details about the programme here:
