How broccoli-heads torpedo your potential

If you’re frustrated because you’re training hard yet you still look broadly the same and your performance has plateaued, worry not.

Or maybe worry a whole lot, depending on your take on what I am about to tell you.

Here goes:

Truth is, a great body is probably 12 YEARS away.

Now I am not for a moment saying you look like hot garbage right now even though you’re training hard. Nevertheless you’re likely a hell of a lot further away from the truly standout physique pictured in your mind’s eye that was a large part of the reason why you started training.

Hence, the chances of it being “just 12 weeks away” as the broccoli-heads flaunting their drugged-up torsos on Instagram like to claim are slim to none.

Oh sure, you can make a tonne of progress in three months – but you won’t keep it.

Wny?

The methods you’ll need to employ to grow large amounts of muscle, shed mounds of unsightly body fat, or both on such a tight timeframe are extreme. And the problem with extreme methods is that you can’t sustain them for very long (often not even long enough to complete the programme).

And when you fall off the wagon (and you will)?

You lost most, if not all, of the progress made with your bone-crushing, metabolism-macerating method of choice, usually having picked up an injury or three that you now have to waste time dealing with.

Much better, in my biased (albeit correct) opinion, to plod along like the proverbial tortoise making marginal gains that compound month to month and year to year while the hares ping from programme to programme wondering why they haven’t seen meaningful gains in forever and hurt everywhere (unless they opt to become drug abusers but that’s a whole ‘nother story).

To use myself as a case study, 12 years ago, I was 22.

At that time, I’d been training just shy of four years and while I looked OK, I wouldn’t dare say I had a “great” body.

Honestly, it was a source of much annoyance. I was doing (mostly) everything “right”, and yet I felt shortchanged because I was putting all of this work in and making all of these sacrifices yet the body I wanted was sitting there, just out of reach.

I can’t say I ever felt like quitting because I started out disgustingly fat and the thought of going back to that made me feel physically sick.

But angry and demotivated?

You betcha.

And those feelings prompted me to make some really dumb decisions. Like trying some of the aforementioned bone-crushing and metabolism-macerating methods that promised and, to be fair, delivered rapid transformational results…

… at the cost of a lifetime of joint problems and nearly making me blind in one eye.

But most of the time, and all of the time for the last five years or so, I’ve tied my colours firmly to the mast of the sane and sensible. And have been rewarded with, at the ripe old age of 34, with what Jess assures me is a “great body”.

Not as great as that of a steroid abuser, nor as great as someone who was never a fat, disgusting slob, but far superior to that possessed by most 34 year old dads (let alone dads of three), and that of lots of men many years my junior (including those who train regularly).

Now we come to the problem:

It’s a fact that building a stellar physique is a pursuit that will take you at least a decade, and the older you get, the less you will be able to achieve in this regard (applies to both men and women).

That’s not to say you shouldn’t adopt the “slow and steady” approach if you are 30, 40, 50, or older (provided you are in good health and it is safe for you to do so, of course) because the alternative is to give up and let your body crumble.

Moreover, a dozen years of solid, consistent, smart training will do wonders for just about anyone. Nothing is guaranteed, of course, but even if you get nowhere (which isn’t likely at all)… at least you can say you tried, which is more than the overwhelming majority can claim.

Anyway.

The reason I’m pushing this point so hard is that the book on building a great body that I am currently selling is exclusively for tortoises.

There is literally no point in reading it if you’re still of the mind that a great body is just 12 weeks away because you’ll approach the system inside with the wrong attitude and fail miserably.

Then you’ll probably complain to me about it, and if there’s one thing I simply don’t have the time or energy to deal with, it’s people who complain. Meaning that I won’t engage with you (nor refund you, unless you’re entitled to a refund by law), which I am sure you will find very stressful considering how much the book costs (even with the discount).

So actually, I’m doing you a favour by steering you away from my material.

But for those who want something they can really get their teeth into for the next six months to a year or maybe even more, I reckon you’d do well to at least peruse the sales page (which contains a comprehensive, chronological list of what’s inside, in bullet point format for ease of consumption).

Then, if you like what you see, hasten to the checkout and enter the code MARCUS to claim the Special Pre-Order Price and get a mighty discount worthy of my son’s name.

Why the rush?

The pre-order window closes tonight (Friday 4/6) at 23:59.

This is a real deadline, and you’ll know it has passed because the code won’t work (the coupon code box may have disappeared as well).

Time’s ticking, so go here to learn all about “The Greek Physique” if you are interested:
