Fat man has “come to Jesus moment” re cardio

It is no secret that I used to loathe cardio.

Why?

‘Cuz I was a fattie.

Not in body (I regained human form at age 20 and have maintained it since, barring a few slips that were ruthlessly rectified), but certainly in mind.

Hence, I barely did any cardio for probably the first 12 years of my training “career”, maintaining my weight through resistance training and sensible eating alone.

Believe it or not, it’s actually fairly straightforward to get relatively lean without doing any meaningful cardio whatsoever. You can even get Very Lean if you indulge in a pants-on-head stupid diet, such as the one I followed in the leadup to my wedding that nearly left me blind in one eye.

The catch?

Twofold:

1) The older you get, the harder it is to keep the belly at bay through weightlifting and perhaps walking alone.

2) You won’t enjoy the manifold and wonderful health benefits of regular, demanding cardio – such as not dying from or becoming disabled by a stroke or heart attack before you hit state pension age.

The latter is something that became particularly important to me after the birth of my eldest daughter.

Enter:

“The Running Starter Kit”

This extremely short book (more of a pamphlet, honestly) contains the very system I used to go from not running (or, indeed, doing any cardio at all) to running respectable distances multiple times per week.

A habit I maintain to this day with relative ease.

The book is £1.77 because that’s the lowest price I can charge to qualify for the 70% royalty option (my ego would not tolerate settling for a measly 35%).
