Easily my most unpopular opinion

“My BMI is high because of muscle” is a firm contender for the most ridiculous statement in the universe.

Why?

I’ve never heard someone say it who couldn’t stand to lose a stone or two.

Harsh?

You bet.

Nevertheless, it is true and I think, deep down, all serious people know it.

However.

I’m not going to drop a bomb like that without justification, so behold some facts:

Steve Reeves possessed what is arguably the best natural (drug-free) physique of all time. (He won Mr Universe when it was still the premier bodybuilding competition on the planet, as well as plenty of other prestigious shows.)

His weight varied over the years, with a range of 93kg to 102.1kg at a height of 185.5cm.

This would give him a BMI of 27.0 at the lower end, smack bang in the middle of the “overweight” range.

At the higher end, his BMI was 29.7.

Notice how he still does not have an “obese” BMI, even at his heaviest.

So, unless a person has a physique that resembles Reeves’ (Google him and be amazed if you are not already familiar), their BMI is significantly deranged because they are fat – not “because of muscle” as they so often profess.

They would also do well to sort that out, considering the profound risks to health associated with an elevated BMI, not to mention the little things like avoiding mirrors while shirtless despite their efforts in the gym.

If “they” includes “you”, my biased recommendation is that you embark upon my three month personal training programme called “Silver Era Secrets”.

It is not a traditional weight loss programme.

Instead, it’s designed to give you the tools to get (and stay) strong and in shape, with weight loss being a natural side effect for those in need of it.
