Drunk ex-girlfriend punches Yours Baldly in the mouth

Today, I am going to talk about a topic I care about greatly:

Male victims of domestic violence perpetrated by women.

Why do I care so much?

I was once in a relationship with a lady who thought nothing of downing a couple of bottles of prosecco and punching me in the face.

The first time it happened was, without a doubt, the very worst thing I have ever experienced.

(Bearing in mind that I have been in some terrifying situations while serving on the ambulances.)

To be violated by a person with whom you shared an intimate relationship.

To know that I couldn’t fight back or even call for help because I would be labelled as the aggressor and carted away to spend the night in a cell.

The bloody mouth healed quickly, but I suspect I will hold that feeling of utter powerlessness within my soul until my dying day.

The worst part?

Over time, it became normal.

She’d chug prosecco, and get progressively angrier at me over some imagined fault before smacking me in the face and walking away.

Why didn’t I leave?

No idea.

Although I suspect it had a lot to do with my mental health at the time. I was wracked by crushing anxiety stemming from PTSD, so suffice it to say, my self-worth was in the toilet and I concluded that she was what I “deserved”.

Speaking of my mental health, she unceremoniously terminated our relationship after I cried over a nightmare I’d had the previous night (truly, PTSD is a wild ride).

What is my point?

Stories like mine are not uncommon, despite what the government, media, and kind, tolerant types would have you believe.

(Incidentally, the same creepy emotionally incontinent manchild I mentioned yesterday DM’d me on LinkedIn after I left a comment about my experience of domestic abuse to “educate” me that men are, in fact, the primary perpetrators of violence.)

And, maybe, what I have written today is of some use or comfort to somebody, somewhere who reads it.

Lastly, a strong body is of no use whatsoever in these situations.

If anything, it will make you more of a target and less likely to receive the care and support you desperately need.

The only defence is to assess any woman you are considering entering into a relationship with Very Carefully to make sure she is of moral character, and avoid “casual” flings and one night stands altogether.

Alas, I cannot help you with that because I am not qualified to do so.

I can, however, assist you with doing the needful to get strong and in shape which, incidentally, is something high value women appreciate (high value men also look for women who are in excellent physical condition).
