Don’t be a monkey on speed

Lately, I have been using a “High Intensity” method to slap some more muscle on my frame, having spent the last year or so getting my heart and lungs up to par with a lot of running.

The programme I am following is actually a subtle modification of the “Tribute” programme which is one of the two programmes I share in my report “How to Build Muscle and Strength – The Natural Way”. (A report you own, as it’s the bribe you got for joining my list – reply if you’d like me to send you the link again).

No, I’m not going to explain the details of what I’m doing (I’m saving that for September’s issue of “The Phil Tyreman Letter”).

However.

I am happy to talk about one aspect of High Intensity Training that will benefit you greatly, no matter what type of training you are doing. (With the exception of olympic weightlifting, for reasons that will be immediately obvious to anyone with a handful of brain cells).

That aspect is…

“Controlling the negative”.

Translation: Lower the weight slowly, resisting the entire way.

You don’t necessarily need or want to do this as slowly as you would when training in the High Intensity style; but I’ve yet to hear a convincing counterargument against controlling the weight on the way down outside of niche, highly advanced forms of training most men have no business engaging in.

Why am I mentioning this?

Mainly because not something I see people doing often, most likely because it restricts the amount of weight you can use.

The fact of the matter is, you can throw around a lot more than you can shift in a safe, controlled manner and this is very injurious to the egos of people who like to believe they are stronger than they are.

It is, however, something you must do if you’re serious about training long term and building strength you can use in The Real World to, for example, lift your kiddos over your head without effort or shift a heavy piece of furniture.

You know, things that are actually important (unlike swinging around a pair of 40kg dumbbells like a monkey on speed).

Enough.

Here’s a pitch:

As I mentioned my report “How to Build Muscle and Strength – The Natural Way” at the start, it’s fitting I tell you about the obvious next step, if you are interested in building upon what you have learned (and, hopefully, gained).

That next step is my three month programme “Silver Era Secrets”, the details of which are laid out in detail below:

Thank you,

Phil Tyreman
