Some of my younger fans have been telling me about how their peers are using AI tools like ShatGPT to write training programmes.
More:
They even use bots to get information about correct form, modifying their routine, which exercises to use when, and dozens of other things besides.
A real problem in my biased (albeit correct) opinion.
Why?
Chatbots cannot create, innovate, or think.
So woe betide anyone who tries to use one to solve even the most basic of fitness challenges.
Remember: All they can do is regurgitate a lumpy browny-green soup of information that already exists, meaning what you get will not, by definition, be tailored to your needs – despite what they lying little robot may claim.
Moreover, they can’t even do that right much of the time, as shatbots regularly spew out inaccuracies or outright fabrications (a phenomenon called “hallucination” which is only going to get worse as AI eats AI-generated information to create a digital mad cow disease).
I concede that I am a Luddite, and have no doubt that my scepticism of technology limits my life in manifold and unusual ways.
But you don’t need to be as patently insane as me to conclude that outsourcing your thinking to a computer is a Very Bad Idea.
Much better to learn the necessary skills to write your own programmes – not only because (with practice) they will be much better than anything ShatGPT can put out but also because it’ll make you a better thinker generally by giving you another opportunity to exercise your God-given intellect.
Funnily enough, I am currently promoting a 90-minute, live, online seminar titled:
“How to Write a Training Programme”
A ticket is £60.
The talk is at 1900 on Wednesday the 16th of October (i.e. tomorrow).
This is for UK residents only.
To make sure I don’t fall foul of the international taxmen, I am going to ask for your address at the checkout.
Any purchases from outside of the UK will be immediately refunded and the offender blacklisted for failing to comply with very simple instructions.
I may or may not run this event again, and it will not be recorded.
