Recently, my back went “pop”.
It was completely unexpected and I have no idea why it happened, but it did.
Believe it or not, such inconveniences are par for the course when you take training seriously.
Yes, even when you are conservative with your weight selection and mindful of your form. You’ll lower the risk by taking this approach but you will never eliminate it entirely; something to keep in mind, so that you respond appropriately when some part of you inevitably gets all ouchy.
And the appropriate response?
Consult with an appropriately qualified medical professional (i.e. a physiotherapist or doctor) in the first instance, and follow their advice.
What?
You weren’t honestly expecting me to say otherwise, were you?
Look, it has been said that my stance on this issue amounts to little more than performative backside covering, but it is not.
I actually wholeheartedly believe this is the only sensible way to respond to an injury, and had I been given this advice when I first started training, I would have avoided almost half a decade of crippling back pain.
I’d also likely be a lot stronger and in even better shape than I am now, as I wouldn’t have lost some of my most productive training years to trying (and failing) to work around an injury and its sequelae.
Ah well.
There is nothing to be done now other than to warn people away from the path I chose to travel because I was too cheap to sling £50 in the direction of a registered physiotherapist every now and again.
Speaking of not being too cheap to pay an appropriately qualified professional to solve a vexing problem, if you’ve been spinning your wheels in the gym for longer than you’d like, I have something that’ll sort you out.
£360 gets you three Real Paper handbooks that explain how to write efficient, effective programmes in some considerable (yet not overwhelming) detail plus three months with Yours Baldly at your beck and call to make sure you put it into action.
Details are below.
Please read the whole letter carefully before making a decision.
If you don’t want to read the letter because you feel it’s “too long” or don’t like my writing style, don’t purchase as you won’t benefit from the offer:
