All your base are belong to us

“Base Building” is a concept by hypertrophy coach and author, Paul Carter that I first discovered a shade over a decade ago.

The basic idea is that you ought to spend a lot of time plugging away with lighter (but not necessarily light) weights to build a solid and incrementally improving foundation.

This contrasts greatly with the typical approach of hammering away at some “intense” method to set PRs, shed fat, or gain size quickly, only to find that you cannot maintain those results, regressing back to where you started (or worse) shortly thereafter.

His approach has been a core part of the way I think about and practice training for a long time, although I’d be lying if I said I “bought in” to the idea right away.

Actually, I dismissed it as unfeasible.

I’d like to say that my objection to the idea of using a high volume, light(er) weight was an intellectual one.

Alas, I knew full well that it would work wonders but my pesky ego and burning desire for quick results meant I continued to struggle along with fatigue, joint pain, and recurrent injury for a good few years before I finally matured in my attitude towards training.

And you know something?

If I have one regret on the training front, it’s that I didn’t adopt this approach as soon as I discovered it.

I am genuinely grieved thinking about how much further along I might be and how much stress and strife I might have avoided had I simply done the self-evidently sensible thing as soon as it was pointed out to me.

It’s up to you whether you want to make the same mistake I did, but I can honestly say I don’t recommend it.

What I do recommend is that you sign up for my three month programme  called “Silver Era Secrets” before the deadline at 23:59 tonight (8/1) so you can take advantage of the current, rather generous price.

After reading this, you won’t be surprised to learn that you’ll learn a way of getting strong and in shape that forgoes deliver rapid, dramatic results in favour of giving you a powerful and ever-building foundation.
