Today, I cannot be bothered to write an email so I shall let one of my fans do it for me.
Behold a review from Lee Kelly concerning my book “The Weight Loss Manifesto”:
===
The journey to losing weight, building muscle, or getting fit will bring its own challenges, so the last thing I need is the additional challenges of following or trying to understand a programme that will get me there.
Once the decision has been made to do something about one of the above, I want to know the truth about how I can achieve this, the commitment I will need to make, and how I can easily fit this around my life, Job, and family commitments.
Based on these criteria, I made the decision to purchase ‘The Weight Loss manifesto’ by Phil Tyreman. Why this manifesto? And why Phil Tyreman? Pretty simple to be honest. Phil is not flashy, he’s not selling a ‘magic’ formula, he’s not complicated, he’s not inundating me with pictures of his 6-pack & achievements and he’s not trying sell a quick fix!!
What he is doing, is producing a manifesto that is clear, structured, honest and in a language, I can understand and more importantly it’s on paper. What? Paper in a digital world? How can I read that on my phone in the gym?!
Well, this is the game changer for me, with the manifesto in paper format, the document has become my ‘training manual’. When reading it for the second time I made notes on the pages that I can refer to, highlighted areas that are important in my training and tagged pages that I could easily flick back to if needed while in the gym. The phone is put away, no selfies, no distractions, just my training manual on hand.
The content is real, its honest and asks you questions. It is asking you to commit, commit long term and take ownership. There is the obvious detail of what exercises to do, what muscle groups to work on, why and how, and background to what the ‘manifesto’ is looking to help you achieve, but what I like is the tone of the manifesto, it’s a grown-up document, it gives you options to makes decisions and its written in a way that you feel Phil is there with you rather than a set of instructions.
The manifesto is designed for you to complete the workouts in a timely fashion, 2 sets of 8. I like this, enough to give you an intense workout (heavier you go, the more intense it will be) but keep you motivated by not overloading you and when you get more experienced, you can make changes. Takes no more than an hour to complete.
It’s been some time since I have been involved in what I would call ‘back to basics’ training but after 2 weeks I found Phils methodology refreshing and easy to fit around other fitness commitments I continue to do. So, if you are serious about long term health, fitness and being in shape; and are brave enough to accept a straightforward no frills approach away from today’s fanciable social media type programmes with no substance, then Mr Tyreman is your man!
