A true story?

An apocryphal story about the late, great Steve Reeves who is widely considered to have the best natural physique of all time:

One day, an onlooker asked him why he was lifting very light weights in the gym. (In some versions of this story, the chap calls him weak – so miniscule are the weights Mr Reeves is training with).

Steve responds by loading a barbell with 400lbs (around 180kg), gripping the plates with his fingertips, and deadlifting it from the floor under perfect control.

Then, in what can only be described as a “mic drop” moment, he said:

===

“The weights are as heavy as I want them to be”

===

I don’t know if this story is true.

Regardless, there is wisdom in those words that all of us can apply to our training and benefit from immensely.

And not just in the weightroom.

I apply it to the way I run, for example.

Instead of trying to do more (which invariably means running for longer and longer), I focus on improving the quality over set distances (that are actually quite short, all things considered).

To repurpose a phrase:

===

“The runs are as hard as I want them to be”

===

This philosophy underpins everything I teach in “The Running Starter Kit”, which will take you from not running at all to running respectable distances multiple times per week.

It’s very cheap, too at just £6.50. (As Jess keeps saying “less than the price of a coffee and cake” – if you’ll forgive the trite comparison).

If you’re interested, there are a couple of things I need to make you aware of before you proceed:

1) I am printing the reports to order on my personal printer using regular printer paper. An attractive document this is not, so please don’t buy it if you’re more concerned with how it looks than what it contains.

2) There are no refunds or guarantees beyond the 14 days on receipt of goods I’m obliged to give to comply with consumer protection legislation.

If that hasn’t put you off, more info and order below:

Thank you,

Phil Tyreman

P.S. Do not purchase “The Running Starter Kit” if you own either “The Conditioning Codex” or March’s issue of “The Phil Tyreman Letter” (where it was given as a bonus) because you’ll be paying for the same information twice.
