Did you know that about one in three people who fracture their hip die within 12 months?
It’s an alarming statistic and one that gets even scarier when you consider most hip fractures are caused not by car accidents or extreme sports… but by simple falls from standing height.
Don’t go breathing a sigh of relief because it’s mainly only elderly people who suffer this particular injury. Remember: Barring some acute catastrophic event like a stroke, older people don’t suddenly wake up one day unable to keep themselves upright.
It’s the end result of a slow decline. One that often begins when people think they’re in the prime of life.
I shall explain: Look around. Do you honestly believe most men in their 30s and 40s could easily sprint to catch a train?
How about playing a game of football with their kids for more than 10 minutes without dissolving into a sweaty mess?
Precisely.
So, it follows that if they’re struggling with fairly unremarkable physical tasks now, the future ain’t looking too bright.
Unless…
… they get their act together and start getting into shape.
If what I’ve just said has rustled your jimmies, then hear this: The choices you make right now, today will affect your tomorrow.
Stop kidding yourself into believing things are “OK”. They’re not. And deep down, you know it.
In any case, this isn’t just about you.
As your fitness declines — and it will, if you take no action — it will affect your family.
If you’re always tired and achy, you won’t be able to work to your full potential and this will limit your ability to provide for them. And don’t even get me started on the havoc sinister diseases like heart disease and diabetes will wreak when they rear their ugly heads.
Will training, eating well, and so on guarantee your protection from the horrible things I’ve just described?
No.
But the evidence says they’ll stack the odds in your favour.
And I don’t know about you, but I want to look my wife in the eyes and know I’m doing everything within my power to be there to support her and my kids with anything they need no matter what.
Anyway, if you’re still with me and you’re brave enough to admit you have a weight problem, let’s talk.
Email me at phil@philtyreman.co.uk, and we’ll take it from there.
When you email, be sure to include a brief outline of your fitness goals and the problems/challenges preventing you from reaching them.
Thank you,
